Hello from the granny of the group!! I am mum to three grown up girls and granny to five. I live in beautiful Bolton and can be found walking my deaf Dalmatian, drawing, sewing and painting…..as well as being a doula!
Why am I a doula?
I have had a long career in education, as a teacher in both mainstream and special schools, and as a university Programme Leader for the early years. I have always been passionate about the early years and the inclusion and support of children with disabilities or differences.
After supporting all of my grandchildren’s births I knew that this was where my heart lay, so I decided to take early retirement in order to be able to pursue my dream of working as a doula.
Things that matter
Becoming a grandmother was something of a watershed moment for me. It made me reflect upon our individual journeys as mothers, it made me consider the story that each birth is part of, and the way memories are made. Choice, positivity and individuality in this process are aspects that are dear to me.
How might I support you?
As with Elle and Lauren, my aim is to support your informed choices, that is of the utmost importance. I will be there during your later pregnancy, birth and after the birth in a bespoke package of support. I have supported home and hospital births, including a twin birth which was almost at full term!! I can also perform Closing the Bones ceremonies.
My other hats!
I am a non religious pastoral care support worker, supporting people at the end of their lives. I have an artists studio where I work on figurative paintings and multi media constructions. With doulaing, family and these interests life is busy but very good!!
